WEL Gene Bank Species Inventory

Selection Criteria for Wild Plant Sampling

The criteria for sampling were compiled at the outset of the WEL-project. The diagram below shows that, of the 4.000 wild ferns and flowering plants prevalent in Germany, 299 were chosen. These are distributed as follows:

- The identical inventory comprises 170 species which can be found in all four sampling areas nationwide.

- The specific inventory comprises 129 species which are prevalent in only one or two of the sampling areas.

WEL-Species Inventory | Origins of the WEL Gene Bank Collection

The species inventory of the WEL Gene Bank comprises more than 4.300 seed accessions of the 263 WEL-species samples which are prevalent nationwide. The wild plant species were collected in the four regions; northwest (NW), northeast (NE), southwest (SW) and southeast (SE) – s. diagram – by the partner responsible for that region and are available in that region. (see: Order form for Seed Material).
